Tomorrow is January 1, 2010. The first day of a new decade, and the obvious time to take on a new project.
Anyone who knows me knows that I would rather be reading. I got two stickers and a button all bearing the legend "Reading is Sexy" for Christmas this year. In 2009, I read 54 books, although some of them were re-reads.
This year, your intrepid reader/blogger/writer will set out on a new mission.
Threatening my resolve to avoid cigarettes, my eyesight, and potentially even my sanity, I will set out tomorrow to read 75 books next year. 52 weeks, 75 books. If Julie Powell can do it, so can I. Except with books, not food.
As I read, I will tell you my reactions. And you (whoever you are) will respond in kind...hopefully.
We start tomorrow, with Joyce Carol Oates' 2002 novella, Beasts. Its about a young college woman in the 1970's, who falls in love with her poetry teacher and his wife (Oh Joyce, how you like to tease.) Bear in mind that if you've never read JCO, you might need a few chapters to warm up to her style, which is a ballet of sparce description.
Perfect for January!
